Still doubt that anti-smokers just fabricate data?
There is NO truth to the claims of anti-smokers, and what I'm about to show you should convince you that such groups, and the media that repeat their lies, have total disregard for truth. Unfortunately, that includes major groups that were once trustworthy, such as the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association. They too long ago jumped on the lies-for-cash bandwagon.
There is a current advertisement that warns us that smoking a cigarette shortens your life by 26 minutes, or smoking a pack shortens it by 8 hours and 40 minutes. Yes, with 20 smokes in a pack, 26 X 20 is 520 minutes, which is 8.6666 hours, their two numbers agree.
You're expected to be scared by those numbers, and you probably are. I decided to do a little calculating, which they obviously hope we won't do.
I started smoking at age 16, and I've easily averaged 2.5 packs/day for the past 52 years. How many hours of my life have I lost? Well... 2.5 x 8.666 hours means I've lost 21.665 hours each day of my life. If I had consistently smoked 3 packs/day I would have had a negative life-span... dead long before the age of 17.
As another demonstration of the ridiculousness of the claim, my 2.5 packs per day for 52 years is 47,450 packs. At 8.66 hours lost/pack, I've lost 4,112,017 hours, which is 171,334 days, which is 469.41 years.
I could have lived an extra 469 years by not smoking? Hardly seems likely, does it?
Truth is, having lived almost 69 years so far, I've already outlived about 25% of those born at the same time. Having survived this long, my life expectancy has now statistically increased to another 15.4 years, which would take me to age 83. However, if we accept the bogus claims, and I STOP smoking now, presumably I can increase my lifespan by 21.665 hours each day I don't smoke.
Too bad I haven't smoked 2.77 packs per day (actually, I probably have... I was being conservative). By quitting, I could then gain 24 hours/day and live forever. Yah sure, you betcha.
Anti-smoking has become such mass hysteria that we now have millions of Americans who will eat like hogs, get no exercise, and drink a lot of alcohol, yet will self-righteously tell me that I'm killing myself, and harming them, by being a smoker. Just yesterday, a new acquaintance and health-care, health-food practitioner who knows that I smoke, gave me parting advice of "breathe deeply" (to cleanse my smoky lungs). What that person doesn't know is that I work out strenuously 3 times/week, to the point of extremely deep breathing. I'll put my lungs up against those of any non-smoker my age.
Because of the massive anti-smoking campaigns, the number of smokers has gone down from about half of the population to somewhere around 20%. That's been happening over several decades. That's MILLIONS of people who have quit. There are very few places left where smoking is allowed, which means that anyone who wants to avoid smoke can easily do so without inconvenience.
Because smoking has been blamed for virtually every medical problem that befalls humans, this should now be one of the healthiest populations on the planet. Is it?
Quite the opposite. Obesity seems to be rampant. Asthma affects far more people than it used to. If one doesn't have several allergies (I have none) you're considered just a lucky freak. Kids are being drugged to keep them from being out-of-control little monsters. Around here at least, it seems as if half the population now works in the health-care industry, and health-care costs have skyrocketed.
How any reasonably rational person can look around at the results of the anti-smoking campaign and believe that it has made us healthier in any way is absurd. It has made us less healthy, and anti-smokers fight any research that might explain why. The few remaining smokers, now confined to smoking grossly overtaxed cigarettes only in their homes or outdoors, are still being blamed for health problems. The big lies have been exaggerated, twisted, and re-told so many times that virtually everyone accepts them as scientific facts. The only other campaign of deception that comes close was Hitler's successful blaming of most of Germany's problems on the Jews.
Just in case their patently absurd claims aren't enough to convince you that you're being duped by the anti-smokers... ask yourself why none of the anti-smoking organizations propose making tobacco or smoking illegal. Do you suppose it could be because they're all making loads of money through taxes, grants, and donations? Duh.
